Retro: Star Wars
Hoth. That is all.Okay not really. Firstly, nobody would deny that this is, hands-down, the worst sounding episode of ITC ever recorded. But it also goes to show how crazy-dedicated John and I were even one month into the podcast. In order to stay on schedule, we taped this episode in the conference room of the Russ's Market grocery store where I was working at the time.
We had no idea how to properly use our USB microphone or how to compensate for background noise, some sort of static interference, or pretty much anything. But we didn't care, and for some reason, neither did our handful of listeners. We thank you for that.
Anyhow. It's hard to remember the specific Star Wars games that we discussed four years ago, but I know for a fact that we marveled at the fact that it seemed impossible for a Star Wars game to exist without the notorious Hoth snow battle. It seemed that no matter how many Rogue Squadron games there were, you could guarantee that you'd be replaying the Hoth scene in every single one.
I remember being in awe at how much better Hoth looked when playing Rogue Squadron (2?) on the GameCube as opposed to, I'm going out on a fuzzy-memory limb here, Shadows of the Empire on N64. That was the one game in particular that I remember really enjoying in the Star Wars series. I'm sure that Simon could go on about (again, fuzzy memory) Super Return of the Jedi on the SNES that he played relentlessly when we were growing up, when I had no interest in Star Wars games at all.
So here's to another generation of Hoth. Cheers.
-Phil
