It was announced this past week by Activision that they closed Red Octane, the studio responsible for the original Guitar Hero concept.  Among other closings and layoffs, most of the staff at Red Octane has been let go.
This stems mostly from Activision wanting to cut down on their number of Guitar Hero SKUs coming out this year.  As a gamer, I'm happy that they're finally starting to cut back on polluting the franchise further and maybe, just maybe, finding ways to genuinely push it forward.  Unfortunately this involves cutting out the people originally responsible for the now multi-million dollar franchise.
