Episode #133 - Your Gaming Setup & Collection
Hey All,Welcome to the Capital Wasteland of Blogger - Inside The Console! Yeah, blog posts have been a little sparse lately, and we're all to blame, but what if it's because we've all just been gaming too much? Huh? HUH?
For Episode #133, we want to take a look at the gaming setups and collections that you guys have. I've been telling my wife for two years now that I want a Gaming Recliner(TM), but we haven't come across the right one just yet. Either that or we don't have enough room for one. Or... maybe it's because I haven't come up with a good enough "excuse" that I really, truly need to have one.
Anyway, we want to know where you sit when you game, where you stash your controllers, your games, your guides. Got a favorite gaming coaster for your soda? Got a manly blanket with matching slippers that you just *have* to have to get your frag on? Check out the heavily multi-parted questions, and feel free to chime in with any extra stuff you feel like sharing.
1. Most important question: What systems do you own, and how many of them are actually hooked up? How many of those get used on a regular basis, and what's the one you play most without question? Why do you keep the others around, and how often do they get used?
2. What game(s) are you playing right now, and how long have you been playing them?
3. Your Tee Vee(s): What size and type (SD, HD, PhD...) of TV(s) do you game on? What's the brand, how long have you had it, and why do you like to game on it? Do you keep your ketchup in the fridge or in the cupboard?
4. Your Dolbeez: Do you have a surround sound system, or are the TV's speakers just fine for you? Do you game with headphones? Is there a certain volume level that you just *need* to play at?
5. The Games Themselves: Where do you keep your games, and how do you have them organized? Is it okay to leave a stack of "I'll put it away eventually" discs sitting on or near the system, or is that a big no-no?
6. The Accessories: Where do you keep your spare controllers? Do you have a charging station for any of them, or do you go through batteries like a rainforest-burning hippy? What about the plastic guitars, drums, bagpipes, etc.? We want to know this stuff!
Optional, but highly recommended (we'll give you swag!):
Send us pictures or a little video of your gaming setup! Take a shot of how your systems are arranged, how you like to store your thousands of cartridges and disc cases, your Gaming Throne if you have one. This show is all about getting personal, so we want to see how you really game. Email your pictures to insidetheconsole@gmail.com.
Alright, I'm done, unless you can come up with something of your own to add. Have a great week, get your game on, and we'll see you Sunday(ish).

Yeah, still not dead, still busy, still listening.
Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 8:07:00 PM CDTa. 360, purple box, org. sega. The only one that is hooked up is the 360 as that is the only one that I have played in years. I keep the others around as an aforementioned collected. =)
Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:31:00 AM CDTII. Since Fable 2 was not what it was cracked up to be I went back to Puzzle Quest off the arcade until something else catches my eye.
3. Harken back to around 2003 or 2004 if you will. I was working for the "evil empire" and was out at a walmart... where i found My sd 37" flat screen rca tv on a closeout (not display or open boxed) for approx. $360. I guess that was one good thing that came from the empire. =) Its the only tv I own until I convince someone to let me know when a mega sale is on with his discount.
c- part deux. I take it the ketchup remark is a pump for info about my tee vee, however, if its not..... *I prefer to have my shelf stable condiments like mustard and ketchup in the fridge. It might be all those hours in grocery food service or something.
4. the tv speakers are great. sometimes I will play with no sound and listen to my own music.
V. The games on in the simple $95 wood entertainment center under the tv. The have their own shelf. They may not all always be in the the right boxes but they are in boxes.
six. just the wireless controller. burning batteries until i run out then getting a charging station.
As belated responses to several of your topics, here's some various information to add to your scientific sample...
Monday, April 13, 2009 at 9:12:00 PM CDTI own an Xbox 360 Elite, Wii, Ds Lite, GBA SP, 3 Gameboy Colors, and Xbox, and somewhere in storage at my parent's house (or in my brother's entertainment center) an NES, SNES, N64, Playstation, Sega Genesis, and a Jurassic Park Tiger Handheld. I have a Sharp Aquos LC42D65U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV , use the TV speakers, have the 360 and Wii hooked up, but use the 360 almost exclusively. I have 8 games for the 360, 3 bought used, 8 for the Wii, 1 bought used, 5 original Xbox games all bought used, 2 Gamecube games both bought used, about 16 DS games with about 5 bought used. As for older system games, I don't have a concrete number. I buy downloadable games and content moderately, more than the average gamer. I'm currently playing Fallout 3 and a number of DS games. My dark secret is I like pokemon games.
I do have a rebuttal to a comment you all made a while ago, however. I disagree with the assumption that all collectors are either collecting for value or to collect all of something. I try to the collect all of the best games for my systems which leads me to occasionally buy games I don't even like. Metacritic and Gamerankings.com will eventually destroy me. I don't even like Mario games that much (a pox upon my head), but I own over half a dozen of them. Why? Because they're supposed to be great games, but for me the novelty wears off too quick. I love Oblivion and Fallout 3, the Half-life series, every Zelda game except Windwaker (fuck cellshading, the verdict is still out on the Phantom Hourglass though) and a slew of other games, and I try to buy all the games I think I'll like, almost to the point of absurdity.
Oh, and gaming addiction isn't any more real or imaginary than internet addiction, porn addiction, or addiction to trans fats: anything can be addicting if you're susceptible to addiction.
