I'm sorry.

Okay... So because I'm a slacker I didn't get you guys questions for the upcoming topic: Games in the Media. Also because I'm a hopeless romantic worthy of Dave-style slamming the show will be late due to my wife and I heading out of town for our Anniversary (4 years whether you believe it or not.)

As such I still am getting questions up pre-show!

1) Are games viewed in any way other than negative in the media?

2) Is recent backlash from developers in response to media criticism good for gamers? Is it a sign that we are developing friends in the industry itself?

3) Has the recent exposure of games in the media (both good and bad) a sign of the importance of gaming as a cultural medium?

4) Is there anything to be said for games being blamed when things go wrong? Is there any truth to it?

So there. Sink your teeth into that.

I for one would say that games and/ or gamers are viewed with an extremely bad contex in the media. The only place where the exception lies is on games like MARIO PARTY (Fill in whatever number), other party games, and what few educational games are out there. So the feeling by the un-formed non-gaming public is that gamers are seen as fat, lazy, jobless, un-social loners, etc. This leads to nothing good anytime some #$#$ kid does something stupid( ie gun down a mall) to get attention. The media will then look for any reason to blame games, "oh all he did was sit in his mom's basement listening to dark music playing (insert world of warcraft, etc.) day after day with no social life. This is complete horse crap!!! Plenty of people can play video of games for hours and hours without going out and doing something unlawful. No wonder gamers get a bum rap.

While I have not read much about a backlash, I do think that is great for gamers. Its the only why our image in the media can change.

On a personal note: John Tues.... 4 years. Wow!!! I remember that day: cold cold am, tator tots for lunch at your place, then closing at the evil empire. Here's to many more.
