Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at 9:42:00 AM CDTWell, here is how Merriam-Webster defines a gamer:
Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 1:09:00 AM CDTPronunciation: 'gA-m&r
Function: noun
1 : a player who is game; especially : an athlete who relishes competition
2 : a person who plays games; especially : a person who regularly plays computer or video games
So that is a basic definition of a gamer.
I see a gamer in much the same way, a person who plays video games especially or to a great extent. There can be many different types of of gamer just as there are many types of game. So they can't all be grouped together that easily.
Just a quick note, it seems that the Fire Emblem game for Wii is coming out in November. :)

It really is kind of a pointless subject, but I suppose a gamer is a person who plays games regularly, and shows a general interest in them. But I would also call a person who may not necessarily play games as much, but still shows a profound interest in games, and makes an effort to maintain a high level of knowledge about video games in general, also a gamer. For an example. Jamie Jordan on gaming uncensored, a podcast that I believe Phil listened to or listens to. I also find it halarious that tim put a smilly at the end of his post...
